INTRODUCTION

Back-ups

Information has become one of a company’s most valuable assets. Data and systems provide valuable information to support decision making at all levels in an organisation. The quality of each decision is only as good as the information on hand used to make the decision. Since the organisation depends on timely decisions for survival, care must be taken to ensure the preservation of this information asset.

To recover from any information disaster a solid back-up solution is essential. The back-up solution will improve the organisations ability to resume normal operation with minimal data loss or downtime. This will reduce the any loss of income due to loss in operation time.

Data (drives) to be Backed up

The user specifies critical data, which requires backing up. This data can reside on the central server or on an individual user’s PC.

Specific file criteria can be included or excluded from your selection.

Data Preperation

Nephthys prepares all data for the back-up. The preparation of this data can be scheduled at any convenient time. This can be scheduled during the evening when all system resources are available.

The data is then stored in a temporary file, which is removed once the back-up process is complete.

Data Compression

The data is compressed using winzip. This enables the use of the full functionality of winzip.

Temporary Back-ups

The prepared data residing in a temporary directory can be scheduled for back-up at any time. This is then stored on a removable hard drive, which can be physically stored at any location. The removable hard drive can be is re-used at the required cycle.

Permanent Back-ups

The prepared data residing in a temporary directory can be scheduled for back-up on a more permanent media for example CD Rom. This back-up can then be stored indefinitely.
